Liverpool has one of the most varied housing stocks in the North West, and each era and building type brings its own lock problem. Six years working across the city means the same faults turn up in the same places, often enough to say which one it is before the door is reached.
Victorian Terraces — L4, L7, L8, L9
The pre-war terraced belts of Anfield, Kensington, Toxteth and Walton still hold a high proportion of older wooden doors fitted with lever locks, many of them below the British Standard an insurer expects. Period front doors in the Toxteth conservation areas need a repair that respects the original ironmongery as much as the security grade, which is why they are repaired rather than replaced wherever the timber allows it.
HMO and Student Stock — L7, L15, L20
The highest concentration of shared housing in Liverpool sits in Kensington, Wavertree and Bootle. Licensing in those areas sets requirements for thumb-turn escape locks, individual room locks and the standard of the communal entrance, which is set out in full on the landlord locksmith page. Getting the escape route right matters more than the lock grade, because a door that needs a key from the inside fails an inspection however good the cylinder is.
South Liverpool Semis — L17, L18, L25
The Victorian and Edwardian semis of Aigburth, Allerton and Woolton usually carry a mix of original wooden doors and UPVC added in the eighties and nineties, and that UPVC is almost always fitted with a standard cylinder rather than a three-star one. Older wooden frames take reinforcement bars well when a door is being brought up to an insurer requirement.
Coastal Stock — L23
Crosby and the coastal strip hold more detached properties with composite doors and modern multipoint mechanisms, and salt air is a real factor there. Gearboxes and cylinder pins corrode faster than they do inland, and corrosion looks identical to gearbox failure from the outside. A short video sent before the visit usually settles which one it is.

Are your locks insurance approved?
Yes. All cylinders fitted are TS007 3-star anti-snap rated and all mortice locks are BS3621 5-lever — these are the British Standard specifications required by most UK home insurance policies. Secured by Design compliance met as standard. Documentation provided on request for insurers.
Do you cover St Helens and Widnes?
